About the Album:
Prinz Johann Ernst von Sachsen-Weimar: Concerti is a Baroque classical album released in 2019 by the German label Audite. The album marks the debut recording of the ensemble Thüringer Bach Collegium, led by violinist Gernot Süßmuth. The project is entirely dedicated to reviving the musical legacy of Johann Ernst von Sachsen-Weimar (1696–1715), a highly talented young prince dubbed by critics as "the Thuringian Vivaldi," who tragically died at the young age of 18. Despite his short life, the prince was a pioneer in introducing the Italian concerto style to Germany. He was a student of Johann Gottfried Walther and maintained a close relationship with Johann Sebastian Bach, who was the court organist in Weimar at the time.
